Does SRI make financial sense?
Yes, SRI makes financial sense. From April 1990 through February 2008, KLD Research and Analytics’ Domini Social 400 -- the accepted large cap domestic benchmark index of socially responsible market-leaders -- outperformed the S&P 500 by a margin of 10.85% vs 10.41% in total annualized return since inception. We have seen similar results on the international front where the DJSI World continues to outperform the MSCI World index: 39.68% vs 34.55% in total annualized return since inception. While it is not possible to buy an index, and past performance is no guarantee of future results, these are significant reminders that SRI returns meet and sometimes even beat non SRI returns.
Does SRI do any good?
SRI does do good. Consumer spending habits carry tremendous influence with corporate America and the world. Apartheid, accounting transparency, business ethics, diversity, and sustainable/renewable resources have all been heavily influenced by consumer spending. Your purchase of various goods and services supports the corporations that produce those goods and services. Your investment choices influence how those corporations operate in our world.
American money management for US expatriates
With the US dollar at near record lows versus most major currencies, now is a great time to repatriate some of your Euro, Pound Sterling, or other foreign currency based investments to the United States. Socially Responsible Investing (also called Resource Optimisation and Sustainability (ROS) in the UK) is quickly gaining momentum and Blue Haven Capital is leading the way. As one of the few U.S. based independent money managers to focus on the growing demand for Socially Responsible Investing, Blue Haven Capital offers equity, fixed income, or balanced account management to individuals and small institutions. Blue Haven Capital uses the custodial services of Charles Schwab, which as of February 2008 provided custody to over $1.4 trillion in customer assets.
As you look out over the next 2 to 10 years, do you anticipate moving back to the States? Will you be buying a house, sending kids to college, or retiring here? Are you more comfortable working with a domestically based American money manager? We would welcome the opportunity to meet with you here in the States or overseas to discuss the benefits of working with Blue Haven Capital. Our partners each have over 20 years of experience in the financial markets and offer seamless, discreet, and private investment management. Contact us for more information about our firm.
